Replying anonymously to a Loop

If you choose to be anonymous when replying to a Loop, only a transcript of your video, audio or text reply is shared with the person you're replying to. Your actual recording is never shared, and your identity stays private.

Who this applies to

Role

Can do

Contributors

Respond to a Loop by video, audio, or text, and choose to send their reply anonymously or with their name attached

Creators

Should understand how anonymity works, even though they are not the ones replying - this affects whether they can follow up with a contributor directly

Before you start

  • The Loop must be set to allow anonymous responses.

    Step-by-step instructions

    Choosing how to reply

When you open the reply screen, it's split in two: the creator's video is on the left and your reply options are on the right.

The reply screen, with the creator's video on the left and the reply options on the right

    1. Watch the creator's question. Their video plays on the left, labelled with the question name (for example, "Krzysztof's Question"). Use the controls under the video to replay it, turn the sound on or off, show captions or change video settings.

    2. Check who you're replying to. The right-hand panel shows a heading in the format "Reply to [Creator Name]" (for example, "Reply to Krzysztof Czerwinski").

    3. Choose your reply format. Three options are shown:

      • Video — marked "RECOMMENDED" with the note "Most people find this easiest and quickest"

      • Audio — noted as "No camera needed"

      • Text — noted as "Prefer typing? That's OK too"

You'll also see How it works and Settings at the top of the reply panel, and Anonymity at the bottom.

💡 Tip: There's no need to prepare anything in advance — informal replies work just as well as polished ones.

    Recording your reply

If you choose Video or Audio:

    1. A recording window opens with a reassurance banner: "✅ Nothing is shared until you confirm."

    2. You'll see a live camera preview with a settings icon and a resize control, plus an optional notes field: "Jot some notes… Only visible to you."

    3. Click Start (the red record button) to begin recording.

    4. Once recording starts, a second reassurance banner appears: "No need to prepare – informal replies are perfect."

⚠️ If you choose Text instead: You'll see a plain text box to type your reply, with a send arrow button in the bottom right. Simply type your reply and click the arrow to continue.

    How anonymity is protected

When you send anonymously, only a transcript of your reply is generated and shared with the Loop creator, whichever format you use - video, audio or text. Your original recording is never shared or stored in a way the creator can access. This is what keeps your identity private, even if you choose to reply out loud. If you send with your name, the creator receives your full reply, including your recording.

Sending your reply - stay anonymous or add your name

    1. After recording or typing your reply, you'll see a screen headed "Add your name so [Creator Name] can follow up."

    2. Underneath, it explains: "You can send a reply with your name if you'd like [Creator Name] to be able to follow up or thank you directly."

    3. Two fields are shown: First Name and Last Name.

⚠️ This is a branching step — choose one of the following:

    • Send with name - fill in First Name and Last Name, then click "Send with name" (subtext: "[Creator Name] can follow up directly"). Your full reply, including any video or audio recording, is shared. Choose this if you want to be identified so the conversation can continue.

    • Send anonymously - leave First Name and Last Name blank, then click "Send anonymously" (subtext: "[Creator Name] won't be able to reply directly"). This is the default path for contributors who want to remain anonymous.

    What the Loop creator receives

What the Loop creator receives depends on whether you add your name. If you reply anonymously, they receive only the transcript of what you said. If you send with your name, they receive your full reply, including your recording.

How your anonymity is protected

When you reply anonymously, the creator has no way to identify you or reply to you directly.

  • Your recording stays private. Your face and voice are never shared, so you can't be recognised from your recording.

  • Your name is never attached. The transcript arrives without your name unless you chose to add it.

  • There's no reply route back to you. The creator can't message you about your reply.

💡 The transcript contains your words exactly as you said or wrote them. If you want to stay fully anonymous, avoid mentioning details that could identify you, such as your name, your team or a specific event only you were part of.

Continuing the conversation later

If you'd like to continue the conversation after an anonymous reply, you can only do this by sending a future reply with your name added. This lets the creator see who the reply is from and follow up with you. Your earlier anonymous reply stays anonymous. Adding your name to a new reply does not link it to anything you sent before.

FAQs

Will the creator ever see or hear my recording? Not if you reply anonymously - only the transcript is shared. If you send with your name, the creator receives your full reply, including your recording.

Can the creator work out who I am from an anonymous reply? The creator doesn't receive your name or recording. The only thing they see is your words, so leave out personal details if you want to stay fully anonymous.

Can the creator reply to my anonymous reply? No. To continue the conversation, send a new reply with your name added.

Does it matter whether I reply by video, audio or text? No. Anonymity works the same way for all three formats.
